3D WEB develops software for the 3D graphics and Internet marketplace and provides contract and contract-to-perm software opportunities in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco area. We have several positions available:
The first position one involves developer a vertex-based modeler:
We are developing a 3D modeler optimized for realtime rendering. Background in 3D graphics is a requirement and if you have some experience with developing vertex-based modelers, that would be great. Lots of GUI experience and MS Windows development would also be great (but we're realistic). The other part of the project is porting and developing a number of products to Microsoft's Direct3D. Noone really knows Direct3D yet but anyone who is familiar with making direct calls to (immediate mode) graphic libraries would be a good match. Any OpenGL or OpenInventor (extensions to OpenInventor, that is) or other nitty gritty graphics work is a good match. This project is probably a year in length. We would like someone on contract but if you're good you can expect a permanent offer in 3-6 months. Or you can remain on contract: the choice is yours.
The second involves VR and Networking:
We are developing a demonstration of a client-server network for shared virtual space. The system will be available on multiple platforms but initially it will be offered under Windows NT. This position is a one-year contract and will involve C++, Visual C++, MFC, NT Server development and a sound understanding of 3D graphics.
The third position involves VR Application Development:
We develop VR applications on a variety of platforms ranging from SGI systems to PC's running Windows. These positions involve programming in C and knowledge of any VR toolkit would be a plus. You will have hands-on involvement with input devices and output devices from the low-end to high-end. Background in 3D graphics or physics is a big plus.
As far as our company philosophy, we donÆt have Jaguars as company cars, we donÆt have executive wash rooms or expansive conference rooms. We donÆt have a vacation policy - you take off when you want for as long as you want (provided your projects are on schedule). We donÆt have a dress code (in fact you donÆt even have to wear clothes if you donÆt want to). What we do have is a great environment to work and play - with sharp programmers in the heart of the most beautiful city in the world. To be successful in this environment, it's best if you can let your hair down and get a little crazy. We need self-starters who create their own opportunities, their own projects and arenÆt afraid to tackle tough problems. We hear from a lot of candidates that they want a challenging work environment. If thatÆs the case, youÆll thrive in our environment. And if you dread the thought of working for a big, beaurocratic organization with eighteen levels of management but feel you have to work in much a company in order to get the right experience, think twice. We have both internal projects and consulting projects with the small and large companies alike. We have a flextime work schedule which means you can work when you want and where you want. We realize people sometimes need to work on *** their *** schedule to be productive, so if you work best from 2 pm to 11 pm, then that works fine for us. For example, if you donÆt have any client meetings for a week, you can take off to Yosemite, Europe, India, the beach wherever. If thereÆs work you have to get done, you can take one of our laptop Pentiums with you. Of course, it would be helpful to the rest of our team if you could keep in touch with our office via email in case we need your help.
The development environment ranges from SGI Reality Engines to PC's running Windows 95, MFC and Visual C++. If you are interested, please respond and if you know anyone with the following experience, we would appreciate it if you could forward this email to a programmer whose background matches any one of the following areas:
C++ programming (Java)
Client/Server Networking
3D Graphics programming
MS Visual C++ / MFC programming
Real-time 3D applications programming
Client/Server application development.
Exposure to any of the following is a plus: VRML, Open Inventor, Open GL, World Toolkit
HTML Programming
2D/3D Graphic Design/Animation
All of the above positions are in San Francisco. If you don't live in the area and don't want to move to San Francisco or are not interested in living in San Francisco or working for us, please forward this email to someone who you think might be interested in these opportunities. Your resume is considered confidential material and will not be shared with anyone except those at 3D WEB with a need-to-know.
Please send resumes to: cool-jobs@3dweb.com or call Mike directly at 415-956-9730.
